This 11-megawatt methane gas powered plant atop the Apex Regional Landfill, about 19 miles northeast of Las Vegas, will use landfill gas extracted from a series of wells at the landfill in a state-of-the-art turbine-generator to make renewable electricity for NV Energy customers.  The 2,200-acre Apex waste repository is the country’s largest landfill, with the capacity to safely store Southern Nevada’s discarded debris for the next 200 years. The plant will capture 60% to 90% of the methane gas created by the landfill during its operational life. This project is remarkable because it provides a significant environmental benefit for Southern Nevada. Lochsa Engineering provided structural engineering design and construction services for the entire project. The main structural components included foundations for two turbine generators, two electrical control buildings, numerous equipment pads and an overhead utility rack. Civil engineering services including grading, drainage, and paving plans for the project were also provided by Lochsa Engineering.
