Lochsa Engineering provided full structural design services for the 13,499 square foot 2-story Jail addition.
The project was constructed using steel deck over open web steel joists and beams supported on exterior and interior masonry bearing walls for the roof. The floor framing for the jails was constructed of cast in place concrete slab in the Control Room, Mechanical and Electrical Rooms bearing on masonry walls. The 2-story cells were constructed using a pre-engineered floor, wall and ceiling system supported on the structural slab on grade. The lateral system for the jail portion of the project utilized the exterior and interior masonry bearing walls. The foundation system for the jail portion was a conventional spread footing system.
The use of BIM allows our entire project team to streamline the design and document work-flows that will ultimately result in a more functional building. By implementing these techniques in the design phase, unnecessary rework can be eliminated during construction. This design process helps control the cost and schedule of the project, with opening communication lines and introducing a more collaborative environment. Lochsa Engineering used Revit to create the BIM model and construction documents that were required on this project. The model was created to a 300 LOD model. The BIM team on this project also linked in the Architectural and Mechanical Revit files to be used for backgrounds, coordination, and constructibility of the documents provided to the client.
